Ászár - Neszmély wine region
The Ászár - Neszmély wine region is situated on the southern slopes of the mountains between the Danube and the Transdanubian . Mountains. The area planted is close to 2,500 hectares. Its climate is balanced regarding temperature, number of sunny hours and precipitation. The humidity level is higher in this region than the country mean average. The loess based brown forest soil gives home to the grape-vine plantations. The Vértes and Gácser mountains. sunny slopes are the favourite locations of the grapes in this area. The region got its name in 1997, from two separated areas: Ászár and Neszmély.
Grape variet / wines: The grape varieties dominating the region were planted since 1970.s are: Rizlingszilváni, Olaszrizling, Irsai Olivér, Chardonnay, Zöld Veltelini, Tramini and Rajnai rizling. The wines from this area are rich in acid, a little bit hard but full of flavour. Settlements: Ászár district: Ászár, Bársonyos, Császár, Csép, Ete, Kerékteleki, Kisbér, Nagyigmánd, Vérteskethely Neszmély district: Baj, Bajót, Dunaalmás, Dunaszentmiklós, Esztergom, Kesztölc, Kocs, Lábatlan, Mocsa, Neszmély, Nyergesújfalu, Süttő, Szomód, Tata, Vértesszőlős
History:Though the first vineyards were probably planted by the Romans, the flourishing wine culture started in the Middle Ages. In the second half of the 19th century the region earned reputation due to the Csákváry estate. During the last few decades the area is rising from its Dog-Rose dream due to the implementation of modern techniques and the improvement of wine quality. By now the variety of produced wines has changed dramatically. Today we can hardly find the traditional Budai fehér, Ezerjó, Kadarka, Sárfehér, Zöldszilváni, Juhfark. |
